Editorial Use Royalty-Free License

Editorial Use Images are photos of recognizable people and places without model or property releases. These images are suitable to illustrate news articles, but are not cleared for commercial use.

Examples of Editorial Use image subjects:

  • News events
  • Concerts
  • Street scenes
  • Celebrities
  • Sport

These photos are normally taken in public places. These images can be legally used for editorial purposes such as news reporting, criticism or commentary on the subject of the image.

Customarily acceptable editorial uses include newspaper or magazine articles and feature stories which are associated with the image(s) used; internet articles and feature stories which are associated with the image(s) used; or certain books on topic. Editorial use images are usually different from commercial stock images, they can be photos of celebrities, politicians, newsworthy events, and many more.

Please note that some images may not be available for standard editorial use.

The main differences between the two types of Editorial License are outlined below:

Basic Editorial License Use:  
  • Web-based news article or press release
  • Personal or corporate blog
  • E-Newsletter editorial (up to 12,000 e-mails)
  • Printed editorial in limited run (up to 12,000 copies) newspaper, magazine, or other printed media
  • All content used within editorial context or related must be accompanied by a visible byline. Ex: (c) Photographer/fotoroad.com

Full Editorial License Use:  
  • Large circulation newspaper editorial
  • Magazine editorial
  • Publication/book of historical nature (educational materials, encyclopedia, etc.)
  • Any unlimited run printed editorial
  • Any unlimited run electronic editorial
  • Any editorial covered under Basic Editorial License
  • All content used within editorial context or related must be accompanied by a visible byline. Ex: (c) Photographer/fotoroad.com

Commercial Use Royalty-Free License

Commercial-Use license allows buyers using photos on commercial basis.Stock photos Fotoroad.com  can be used on book covers, as a postcard, in ads, as part of a web site design, in magazines, etc. Commercial-use license allows images to be used for editorial content.

If an individual's or a property's likeness is used commercially, you should ensure that you obtain a model or property release authorizing such use. Fotoroad.com will usually not allow purchasing of unreleased images for commercial use, and you are welcome to contact us should you need to receive a copy of the release form for commercial use images you have bought.Ask for  availability of the release forms.
